Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Shamin is currently appointed as the commander of Special Forces. He joined the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on 22nd April 1997 and completed his Commissioning Course at Bangladesh Military Academy in 2003. He was promoted through the ranks and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 2008.
During his 21 years career to date he has served in various command and staff positions including Weapon Instructor, Chief Weapon Instructor, Tactics Instructor, Waterborne Instructor, Assistant Chief Instructor, Chief Instructor in Defense Institution of Training and Education(DITE), Platoon Commander, Training NCO In-charge, Training Officer of the Special Forces, and Deputy Commander of MNDF Northern Area.
Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Shamin has followed several courses in Maldives and abroad and performed outstandingly in all courses that he has completed. He has followed Infantry Officer Basic Course (IOBC) in Fort Benning USA, Young Officers (YO) Course and Captain Career Course (CCC) in school of infantry and tactics (Quetta) Pakistan, Airborne Course in Commando Regiment School Ganemuhlla, Sri Lanka, and Special Operations Combating Terrorism Program in USA. For his achievements in Bangladesh Military Academy he was awarded with the physical fitness plaque and weapon training plaque. He completed his Special Forces training in Fort Bragg USA and his Command and Staff Course in Malaysia.
In recognition of his service, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Shamin has been awarded the Ribbon for Skill for the exceptional skills he has shown as an instructor.
In the field of sports he captained MNDF volleyball team in national tournament and had been the best defense player for consecutively 4 times and there for been awarded the Victory-ribbon (achievement ribbon) for the second time. He captained his unit football team 3 times and won the tournament 2 times .He has taken part in athletics, summing and various other competitions and achieved golden colors for his unit and for the organization.
Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Shamin is married and blessed with a daughter and two sons.
