Secretary General of IMCTC has visited Maldives on an official trip

Secretary General of IMCTC, Major General Mohammed Bin Saeed Al-Maghidi has visited Maldives on an official trip. Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) is an alliance formed by Saudi Arabia in combating terrorism and extremism.

Upon arrival to Maldives on 23rd January, Secretary General of IMCTC was received at Velaanaa International Airport by Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef.

During the visit to Maldives from 23rd to 29th January, Secretary General of IMCTC has called upon Minister of Defence Uza Mariya Ahmed Didi as well as Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdullah Shamaal and has held a discussion meeting with the leadership of MNDF.

At the call with Minister of Defence, Secretary General of IMCTC assured complete support of the coalition to the work of Maldivian government against terrorism and extremism. Discussions were made in strengthening preventive measures by aid of the coalition in provision of equipment used against a terrorist attack and Islamic scholars who will clarify the topic to the community.

At the call with Chief of Defence Force, both parties broadly discussed coordinated efforts in preventing dangers of terrorism and extremism. Secretary General of IMCTC thanked Maldivian military for the contribution and aid received by the contingent of MNDF deployed at IMCTC Counter Terrorism Center located in the capital of Saudi Arabia.

Contingent of MNDF was deployed at IMCTC Counter Terrorism Center for a duration of 1 year starting January of 2020. The duration was later extended, the center still receiving services of MNDF Contingent. A total of 41 countries are active in the coalition established during 2015 with purpose of combating terrorism and extremism. Main purpose of the coalition is to take preventive measures against terrorism and extremism, and share terrorism related intelligence amongst member countries.

Secretary General of IMCTC is scheduled to depart from Maldives on 29th of January.
