Graduation ceremony of Marine Corps Special Operations Group\'s Qualification Course - 1 has been held

Graduation ceremony of Marine Corps Special Operations Group's "Qualification Course - 1" has been held. Marine Corps Special Operations Group is a newly formed unit with purpose of achieving the mission of MNDF, conducting specials operations at sea and land, and as a force who are active in operations in times of immediate threats. Skills required in achieving the mission of the unit was relayed through a training which lasted 9 months.

Guest of honor at the graduation ceremony held at Girifushi Training Center was Minister of Defence Uza Mariya Ahmed Didi.

A live fire demonstration by Special Operation Group was displayed at the ceremony held. The demonstration included a raid operation of destroying a stronghold belonging to terrorists. At the raid operation, to maximize effects of fire, covering fire was provided with an automatic machine gun manned at sea, different types of explosives were used in destroying a building, and clearing of rooms were displayed by methods of mechanical and explosives breaching.

A total of 30 marines belonging to Special Operations Group took part in the course held at MNDF Male’ Area Command, Hulhule’ Post and MNDF Central Area Command, L.Kahdhoo for a duration of 9 months. All the participants, including 4 officers of SOG, successfully completed the course and achieved the course badge. Additionally, those who completed the course were presented unit tab of SOG, flash of SOG, beret of SOG, and rank promotion. Beret of SOG and letter of rank promotion were handed out to marines of SOG by Minister of Defence Uza Mariya Ahmed Didi while ranks were presented to the marines by their family members.

Badge of SOG and certificates were handed out to SOG marines by Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdullah Shamaal while tab of SOG were handed out by Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef.  

Course organized by MNDF College of Defence and Security Studies was monitored by Marine Corps Training School. Topics relayed at the course include leadership and management, waterborne operations, tactical combat casualty care, war fighting and tactics, physical training, combat diving, martial arts, and tactical repelling.

Attendees at the ceremony included Minister of Defence Uza Mariya Ahmed Didi, Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdullah Shamaal, Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef, Commandant of MNDF Marine Corps Brigadier General Wais Waheed, General Officers of MNDF, commanders of units, and senior officers.
