Lieutenant Firushana Thaufeeq achieves the most prestigious award presented to women

Lieutenant Firushana Thaufeeq has achieved Rehendhi Award. Rehendhi Award is the most prestigious award of Maldives which is presented to women in encouraging them to introduce themselves to national service as well as in acknowledgement of women who contribute to service benefitting the whole community.

Lieutenant Firushana Thaufeeq was presented with the award for her contribution in the medical field. At the ceremony held at Meerumaa Conference last night, Lieutenant Firushana Thaufeeq was presented with the award by President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih while the brooch was handed by the first lady, Fazna Ahmed.

Rehendhi Award was introduced in the year 2014 and is presented by the President of Maldives in recognition and acknowledgement of women contributing to national service in different fields and for their role in progress of the country as well as the community. 55 individuals have won the award in the past 9 years.

Lieutenant Firushana Thaufeeq is the first female Maldivian officer to complete training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, UK, achieving award for “best foreign cadet”.  Lieutenant Firushana Thaufeeq has a degree in Nursing and has contributed to valuable services at Senahiya Military Hospital. During the Covid pandemic, Lieutenant Firushana was assigned in charge of the Senahiya Military Hospital’s flu clinic and has as well served as a VIP nurse.
