Colonel Mohamed Mukhthar joined the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) in 30th March 1989 (than National Security Service), after completion of his Secondary Education at Male English School. He is a graduate of Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa and has competed Infantry Young officer course serial 19 at Pakistan Army Infantry School in 1994. He started his career as a platoon commander at Quick Reaction Force Unit III than, now renamed as Marine Corps. He also accomplished Junior Command Course at Collage of Combat Mhow, India in 1997 and Infantry Company Commander Course at Shizhia Dhuan Military Academy China in 2003. In addition to the above courses he also has followed Air force Basic Staff Course at Badaber Pakistan and Education Planning and Management Course conducted by Pakistan Navy at Korangi Kreek Pakistan. He did his Staff Course at Sri Lanka Defence Services Command and Staff College, he has also participated few seminars namely Multi-national Planning and Augmenting Training (MPAT) conducted at Singapore by Singapore Armed Forces and US Army Pacific Command and Multi-Echelon Training for Peacekeeping in Center of Excellence Hawaii USA. Apart from the above he also followed a training Programme conducted by Bourne mouth University UK, on Disaster Management at Sri Lanka. He also attended the APCSS, Comprehensive Security Response to Terrorism -13 program and Advance Security Cooperation Program 1-18, Near East South Asia (NESA) for Strategic Studies, Combating Transactional Threats Executive Seminar in 2014, International Symposium 2017 in China, and Pacific Amphibious Leaders Symposium 2018.

Prior to his current appoint as the Principal Director of Marine Corps, he was the Commander of MNDF Central Area, Commander of MNDF Fire and Rescue Service and Commander of MNDF Male’ Area. He also has held various staff appointments. To name a few the list includes Principal Director of MNDF Marine Corps, Defence Advisor to the High Commission of Maldives in Sri Lanka, Acting Adjutant of Girifushi Training Center and Chief Instructor at Girifushi Training Center and Kadhdhoo Training Center.

Over the service of 29 years he has been awarded with Presidential Medal, Good conduct Medal, Dedicated Service Medal, Defence Force Service Medal, Centenary Medal, 17th SAARC Summit Medal along with other decorations.

To maintain his physical fitness the officer enjoys some indoor games.

Colonel Mohamed Mukhthar is married to Mrs Fathimath Wimna and is blessed with 3 children.
